Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) Permissible Use Descriptions

Below is a more detailed description of the DPPA permissible uses. By selecting a permissible use, your search will be run against the drivers' licenses, motor vehicle registrations and boat registrations for the states that recognize the permissible use you selected. Civil, Criminal, Administrative, or Arbitral Proceedings (Litigation)

Use in connection with a civil, criminal, administrative, or arbitral proceeding, including the service of process, investigation in anticipation of litigation, the execution or enforcement of judgments, or compliance with the orders of any court. Use in connection with any proceeding (including arbitration) in any court or government agency, or before any self-regulatory body, including investigation in anticipation of litigation. Commercial Driver's License

Use by an employer or its agents or insurer to obtain or verify information relating to a holder of a commercial driver's license that is required under chapter 313 of title 49 of the United States Code.

Use in the Normal Course of Business including Debt Recovery/Fraud

Use to verify the accuracy of information about a person who provided the information to you (or to your client) but only if used to recover on a debt against the person or to pursue legal remedies against the person for fraud.

Court, Law Enforcement, or Government Agencies

Use by a court, law enforcement agency or other government agency or entity, acting directly on behalf of a government agency.

Insurer

Use by an insurer (or its agent) in connection with claims investigation activities, antifraud activities, rating or underwriting.

Motor Vehicle Safety or Theft

Use (except by or for a motor vehicle manufacturer) in connection with motor vehicle safety or theft, or driver safety.

Licensed Private Investigative or Security Services

Use by a licensed private investigative agency, or licensed security service, for a purpose permitted above.
